How to Knit a Simple Scarf

Morning!

Lovely chilly days mean snuggling up in cosy warm knits. I know we are all a little pressed for time at the moment what with crimbo shopping and work so I’ve come up with a super fast scarf knit which also doesn’t require an awful lot of concentration so you can do it whilst watching TV. Aaaaaand, it only uses the knit stitch! Simples.

Simple Scarf

You will need:

2, 3 or 4 balls of chunky yarn depending on how long you want to make it
10mm needles
Large daring needle for sewing in ends

Instructions:

Cast on 28 stitches using chunky yarn and 10mm needles

Foundation row : Knit all stitches

Pattern Row 1: Knit 1, *Knit into the stitch below next stitch (K1B), K1* Repeat from * to *, Knit the last stitch
Pattern Row 2: Knit all stitches
Pattern Row 3: Knit 2, *Knit into the stitch below next stitch (K1B), K1* Repeat from * to *,
Pattern Row 4: Knit all stitches

Repeat the 4 pattern rows until the scarf is the desired length then cast off. I used one ball of chunky purple yarn and turned it into a cowl by stitching the ends together.

How to K1B (Knit 1 below stitch):

Place the right hand needle into the stitch below the one on the left hand needle

How to K1B

Then knit as normal.

This pattern creates a kind of waffle, honeycomb texture, combined with the larger size needle you get a fabric that is snuggly and warm but lightweight.
